My pekin woke up yesterday with a very droopy eyelid and what looked like a little bubble or blister beneath the black part of her eye. In the past she's on occasion had a droopy eyelid which I treated with terramycin and it cleared up and went back to normal within a couple days. This is a little beyond that, and it's possible that she was pecked at by one of my newer ducks, but I'm still a little confused what happened as she sleeps separate from the new ducks. I did watch one of the new ducks mate with her a couple days ago and when he grabbed her head I saw that the skin was pulling on the eye area a bit. He's only mated with her a couple times ever...I'm trying to supervise that to make sure it doesn't get rough, and also avoid injuries like the one I now have. Anyway, yesterday the little bubble was clear and now today it's bloody looking..... reminds me of a blood blister. I've been rinsing it with saline and applying vetricyn opthamological gel since yesterday afternoon. I don't know if I should continue that or go to terramycin? Is there anything else I should be doing? She's fine on all other accounts, but her eye looks terrible and so sad. I'm keeping her separate from my younger ducks in case they contributed at all.....

I haven't seen anything like that in a duck. It looks a lot like something I see in a couple of my guinea pigs, pea eye. But I am not sure if ducks can get something like that.

It could be inflamed tissue and maybe an anti-inflammatory drug might help, but not positive. Hopefully someone else will know more. @Isaac 0 @HollowOfWisps @Miss Lydia

You may need to see a vet though.

I think a vet might be best. If the Terramycin or other things aren't helping. I've never seen anything like it either, but being it now looks full of blood I hope you can get her to a vet.
I've seen members post pictures of their ducks eyes that have been injured from mating so this could be a possibility.

How's she doing today? It looks similar to a subconjunctival hemorrhage in the inner lid. They can swell pretty good depending on how much force caused them and location, but I agree a vet in this case would be the only way to know what to do for sure. If it is just a severe subconjunctival hemorrhage the swelling should start to slowly subside, but again that is just my best guess based on the pictures and the drake pulling on her eye.

Thanks for the feedback. If it doesn't look improved at all when I see her this morning (it's still dark here!) I will call the vet. Out of curiosity, are any of you allowed into the vet offices in your states? We are so shut down in WA state they won't allow us to come inside and we have to hand off our animals at the front door. It's so aggravating and adds a whole extra layer when deciding to go to the vet because I know the duck will be scared sitting in a box in the office waiting for the doctor.

Thankfully we are now allowed to be inside with our animals.

I could say a lot more about how stupid this all is but I won't. :( [about not being allowed inside the vets office.]
Yeah, don't get me going about everything stupid going on . Last week I ended up euthanizing Penny. I called a dog and cat vet just 5 minutes from me but they wouldn't let me be with her - I just had to do a hand-off. So I brought her to the avian vet 25 minutes away because they said it would be quick and easy, no problem for me to sit (outside!!) with her while she's sedated and then they would bring her in for the final shot. I wanted it to be as stress-free for Penny as possible. They made me wait outside almost an HOUR with Penny before they finally came out and sedated her - I had to call in a few times to make sure they remembered me out there. I was glad I got to be with her, but it was stressful in the parking lot with cars going by, car alarms going off, etc. It was so easy for them to ignore me out there. The whole experience was stressful and I was SO mad.

I'm so sorry you and Penny had to go through that.
And very sorry you lost Penny.
:hugs
Thank you. I miss her, but I think it was for her best, and I'm a little relieved not to be caring for her anymore. In the end I'm still glad I got to sit with her and didn't hand her off to wait alone in the office.
