Duck feed

Does anyone know if the feed can change the taste of the eggs?

I seriously was just thinking about this today and I don't know for sure but I would bet YES. Just as feed can change the taste of the meat it has to affect the eggs too. It amazes me the difference of just a simple hard boiled egg, I use to not like eggs very much and I can only describe it as an "strong eggy" taste but my fresh eggs (I do free range) are so mild and clean tasting...that isn't very descriptive-sorry! But, depending on how you cook the eggs will determine how much you notice the difference too. A simple hard boiled I think would be the best taste test.

I'm actually doing a blind taste test tomorrow, I bought some commercial eggs just to confirm what I've personally noticed. Of course, I don't know the breed of white grocery store eggs so that might also affect the taste.?..

Please let me know if you find out something more official than my simple palate!

I will definately let you know. Mine free range too but I do keep feed around as well for them.

I haven't had much taste testing on eggs to be an authority, but I like the eggs from the farm down the road over the grocery store eggs for sure. The ones from the store have a plastic/synthetic kind of taste to them compared to the free range eggs at the farm down the road. (But then again, I'm also a super taster and can taste things a lot of people can't) It could also be that the farm eggs aren't ever cooled. I buy them from the table outside, and don't keep them in the fridge.

I would say yes feed definitely has influence on flavor. A lot of people in our area are disgusted by duck eggs. Until I convince them to try them. We feed flock raiser and they taste about like chicken eggs, with respect to the more fluffy product. We also feed our chickens Layena feed and they will get damaged produce that doesn't sell on Friday markets. People tell us our eggs taste the best out of any they've tried, including the two other vendors down the row that are organic. But we also pay more attention to bird health and nutrition.
