Hi all! What's going on with my drake's feet? His brother and his brother's mate have similar growths but smaller. There's no sign of infection and he's not limping, but this can't be comfortable. The run is lined with wood chips.

that’s bumblefoot, and very severe. can they go to the vet?
There's an avian vet. in our area but I've never used them and they're not open on weekends. This guy is the worst but all 3 of my adults have similar growths. None of them are warm or show any other sign of active infection, and this doesn't look like any of the photos of bumblefoot I've seen, so I was really hoping it's not. I'm going to put him into an epsom salt soak and see if I can investigate any further then call the vet on Monday. Is there anything more I should do in the meantime? The other two are far less severe so I'd like to try to treat them at home if I can.

bring them all in the house and use only blankets as bedding. make sure to change often so they don’t step in poop.

As bad as this is, I would not treat it myself. You are going to need a vet. It's fine to wait until they're open, but do get them there.

If you have an avian vet nearby, I would take the worst one there.

Thank you all. I was able to get him to the vet. today and she was super helpful. Obviously, it's bumblefoot.

I feel HORRID for not noticing this sooner, and the thought that they've all been suffering makes me sick to my stomach. I've only had them for a few months and they likely had it when I got them but I should have caught it long before it got this bad.

The good news is that there is no osteomyelitis and no joint involvement, so we're going to take him back on Thursday to be debrided under anesthesia. My wife is a nurse practitioner and a wound care specialist, so she feels confident that we can manage the other two at home, and that with the help of antibiotics we can get Roy healed once the wounds are clean. As I type this he is outside chasing the girls around the yard and bossing everyone around so I take a tiny sliver of comfort in that, but I feel horrible.

Thank you for helping to confirm that my fears were correct.

Great to hear, and good on you for getting him to the vet. Keep us posted. We just started a 10-day course of antibiotics for one of our girls with a not-so-nice case of bumblefoot.
