Duck food

My Pekin loooooooves carrot peelings, the other will eat it but wont go crazy over it.
Also fresh green beans cut finely, they love picking at them,
Watermelon is a good one. I haven't got it for a while because it is quite expensive and the ducks eat it up in 2 seconds flat.
I bought some Superworms today, which I thought were mealworms. But the smaller ducks can't eat them... too big. But my brrody scovies love them! And if I hold them far away, they'll get off the nest, so I took some eggs without them noticing.
Maulberries (can't spell 'em), my Uncle has a tree and the duck love them, especially the Khaki Campbells.
List:
> Carrot peelings
> Fresh green beans
> Watermelon
> Rockmelon
> Anymelon.
> Strawberries
> Apple peelings
> Superworms
> Mealworms
> Wax worms
> Crickets
> Earthworms
> Feeder fish
> Tomato
> Cheap dog/cat food meat (little bit)
> Any bugs you find in the yard, dead butterflys, beetles, flys from the swimming pool, spiders
> Basic, non salty crackers, especially multi-grain crackers, but only in little bits>
> Snails... my ducks go ccrazy for snails, they'll come running.
> You can feed bigger ducks pinkie mice but I could never bring my self to feed a newborn mouse to my ducks, no matter how much I love them, but, I guess the mouse is already dead, so if you can do it go for it.
> Chicken meat, no bones
> Cucumber, ducks go crazy for this one too
> and as you said, tomato, chery and full size.

Oh thanks so much. That helps me out heaps. So much variety. He is one lucky boy.
I am much like you, could not bring myself to feed him pinky's. We also have snakes, and I can't watch my partner feed them pinky's. Makes me sick. lol
But thanks so much. I will be shopping for him tonight.

Oh yes, I forgot about the feeder fish - good tip, animalz11! If you get a bunch of fish and put them in the pond the ducks will have a great time catching them (look away now, people, if you think that is cruel..which it is, when you think about it....but the ducks do love it....!). When I first tried this my ducks spent a few hours just staring at the scary new things in their pool. Then then got in the pool for some close-up staring. About an hour after that they worked out that the scary new things were edible....much excitement!!!!!!!!! I buy fish from the local reptile shop for $2 each.

I do think its cruel, but when I feed them to the ducks, they quish them quickly before they swallow them, so I see it as being a quick death with minimum pain.
A Pet store near us has 20 feeder fish for $5, and if I get the new staff, they'll fill up the net giving me about 50 or so fish, but after doing about 2 mins of research, I thought the fish were gambusia, Illegal to sell, then I did some more research, and found out they were just commom guppies with the same markings of Gambusia. Rambeling again, sorry. Anyways, the ducks love them.
I tried giving the smaller ducks Superworms but they couldn't eat them, so if you have small ducks they may not eat them but the larger ducks love them! Pitty, it's always the expensive stuff they love.

I do feel a touch guilty with the feeder fish, but it is really fun to watch. My ducks do not seem to feel the least bit guilt about it either!;)

also - worms, tomatoes, watermelon, Corn on the cob (leftover, cooked, cooled) and PEAS!

My ducks love boiled egg, not sure about scrambled eggs. Any kind of bug is gone like THAT! LOL They've been getting into the garden and backyard recently, so who knows what they found. Mine eat small amounts of grass, but it gets cleaned up one way or the other as I have geese that run w/ them.

Almost forgot to mention that mine go BONKERS for watermelon. All my ducks and geese get dyed red/pink by the end of the day! LOL My geese even eat the rind and everything.

Hope this gives you some ideas to try.

My ducks seem to liked hardboiled chicken eggs then what they do their own... maybe they know!

When ever I give my duckies watermelon, I make sure to lock them out of their house first! Or they'll take a massive chunk of watermelon are shake it in their house and make all the walls wet! Silly ducks. Or if I have some floating fish food, I put it in a small container of water for them to sift through.. and the great thing is that because they are too busy sifting, they can't be bother asserting their dominance over the little ducks, meaning they can all sift together!
My aunty gives her ducks water melon slices, then to rind to the chickens who pick off what the ducks have missed.

I've developed a sytem to take eggs off the ducks without them noticing while they are still on the nest... you get superworms are give them 1 or 2 while they are sitting, then you move them futher and futher away, eventually, the ducks need to get up to get the worm... once they are up... you quickly grap any eggs... works like a charm.

can ducks eat organic chicken pellets as there food? I will be giving them all the veggies and things but in the morning I feed my checkens there organic chicken feed and was wondering if the ducks when they grow up can eat it too?
