We have some of our ducks fenced in, and we want to make them a garden. What plants are safe for them and would provide food, shade, and nice bugs? Plants that will grow nice in Illinios please

I have found that there are some things that work well with the ducks. I have areas that are high-use and just have perennial vegetation around the edges, and I have areas that have nice, established perennials, and then there are the spots they can visit sometimes, but I move them along to prevent them from squashing more tender plants. How many ducks matters, too. I have a little flock of three buffs who can patrol the garlic garden without messing things up, but the nine runners would flatten it in twenty minutes.

I will just toss out the names of some plants we have

hardy kiwi vine (protect the bottom two feet from being nibbled on until the vine is five or six feet tall.
comfrey
violets
chufa
tall grasses - brome, orchard, oats
flax
smartweed (lady's thumb)
dandelion
chickweed
goldenrod
nasturtium (protect the base of the plant)
blueberries
English plantain
day lilies
grape vines
myrtle
