One of my new female ducks has decided she likes to lay her eggs behind a bale of straw in the shed, however the last few days, i keep finding one of my other ducks sitting behind the same bale of straw, we thought this duck was a male? sometimes they are behind there together, we have never had any eggs from this duck so assume it is a male, is there any easy tell tale signs to distinguish between males and females, any ideas why he is doing this?

I can't help you with the male/female thing except to say that my boys have a whispery voice and the girls quack.

But I do have a question....are you still getting eggs from your ducks?

Good for you. All I've found have been broken ones so I am assuming the other ducks here are going in and eating them. Haven't been able to catch them so it's all guess work.

What kind of duck is it? My male mallards go in with the girls and stay with them while they are inside. Same with the pekins, only with them, all of the boys go in with one female. They repeat this with each of the females that go into the house. I've found that pekins are just a bit....odd, lol.
