Its the yolk sac that hasnt fully been drawn up into the little guys belly by the looks of the pic. _ but hard to tell.. Is that what it looks like???

If it is - it will reduce in size soon. He might be left with a small dried up bit the protrude and will eventually fall off. I have had this a few times with my ducklings. Most of them have survived. I would wait just a little while to put some antibiotic or antiseptic on it. I wont suggest anything in particular.... as you have different products to me.. Im sure someone else could recommend what to use.

In the mean time...keep him warm and quiet, and come on back and let us know if the bulge isnt smaller in an hour or two - or the morning.. It may be a sign of something else wrong as well. If you have some vitamins - a few drops of water with vitamins may help him gain his strength and perk up a bit - dosage would depend on what you might have available.

sorry to hear. It does look like the yolk sac to me too, the only real thing I can suggest is to make sure there is nothing that it can get hung on. If it gets torn mortality will increase. It could have some underlying problem. keep whatever you keep it in very clean, and probably keep it separate from the others because they might peck at it, make sure it eats and drinks. Time will tell, but if it makes it passed the first week I would think it will make it. Sometimes they will finish sucking it up and grow up normally. Hope this helps some. Maybe others have better ideas, but I have never found a sure fire way....sorry.

it does look like the yolk sac hasn't drawn up into it. it seems to be ok overall and isbright and alert. i gave him a sip of water before i took the pic i think ill just monitor the situation and report back later

Good to hear it looks like the yolk...and not organs..thats a plus for the little guy. When my ducklings hatch but are still attached to the egg......I pay closer attention to them and the absorbing of the yolk...even an hour or two can make a huge difference to the size of what is still outside the belly. Good luck with this little one. He has a good chance..but fingers crossed still. drinking is a good sign too.

Hope he makes it.
