Ok so I have 3 black Indian runner ducks 2 male and 1 female but theirs a pond nearby and theirs also 3 ducks that live at that pond that are wild and all males theirs a full bred pekin And one that's a half bred between a pekin and a mallard and idk what the other one is but, I'm planning to relase mine but every time I bring my ducks up to the pond they fight and it's the pekin one that always goes after my ducks? but i don't know what to do I don't want to take my ducks to another pond and let them go and never see them again? What do I do? Will they ever get along? Please respond and help me?:(

I'm sorry but, there are so many things wrong with what you said up there. WHY are you releasing your domestic ducks to a pond? Domestic ducks are not something you can just dump out in the wild like that and expect them to live. It is actually illegal to do so. If you don't want your ducks anymore, please find them a new home with someone who can take care of them (protect and feed them) for the remainder of their lives. They will not be able to survive out there on their own. Also, that female will likely be killed being tossed out there with so many males. Please, please, find your runners a new home and be a responsible pet owner.

X2! Im sure there are plenty of people that would gladly take in free runners.

If you dump your ducks like it seems like you are saying you plan to do you will be breaking all sorts of laws and consigning the ducks to a very short life resulting in sickness and/or violent death. Domestic ducks have most of their survival skills bred out of them so long ago that they are just short of being household pets. I know people dump ducks all the time, otherwise how did the ducks already at that pond get there. That does not make it any less wrong. Why do you need to get rid of your ducks? Why did you get them in the first place. If you can give us an idea about the area you live in we can try to assist you in finding someone or someplace to take them off your hands. Please don't just dump them and let them die.

Welcome to BYC!

Do not release them, period. If you can't keep them find them a proper home.

Ok, I agree that releasing ducks is a very bad idea. However, I am going to go with the assumption that you are planning on putting them on a pond on your own property or in your neighborhood and you have permission from the neighborhood to legally release the ducks on the pond.

First the boy to girl ratio is too far off. Your girl will be bred to death by the boys and the boys will spend a lot of time fighting and injuring each other over the girl. You need a minimum of 4 girls per boy. Or the flock should just be one gender. If you can rehome the female that should fix that problem.

Second, you will need a shelter for the ducks for nighttime. The pond is not good enough as they can get picked up by owls when on the water or by other predators on land. You will need to spend a few weeks teaching your ducks to come to the shelter at night by feeding their meals in it and placing them in it. They are really slow moving and cannot get away from predators. The shelter will need to be very secure. Raccons, mink, weasels, etc... can get through very small opening.s

Third the ducks will need access to fresh food daily as they are domesticated and will not be able to provide enough for themselves on a daily basis.

If you cannot provide the above or the pond is not yours to legally release on you should sell or rehome the ducks. Even if they went to a person to butcher and eat it would be better than the life and ending they will have on their own.

Guys listen I am very appreciative and I thank you for the feedback but I live in a neighborhood in the woods kinda and the pond I'm talking about is right behind my house and I wouldn't just take them up their and let them go I brought and keep bringing them up there every day, and I don't think I need a license because I know the person that owns the pond and he told me it's totally fine and that he wants more ducks up the pond, they're used to be literally like 60 ducks up there mallard and pekin mixed and they were fine and they all were doing fine for a long time then I guess they got eaten or something but the person that brought the ducks up their for the first time was the owner that I was just talking about he bought the ducks and let them go and now their doing fine but now they're no more females so that's why I got 3 ducks, I asked for mallard but the place told me they only had runners and where I live is in the northeast and winter is coming so that's why I like really want to let them go up the pond became they walk right up on there own now whenever they want they love the pond and they will stay up there all day until dusk comes and then the other ducks come back and chase them down and they fight pretty violent but one of my neighbors released 3 ducks a couple of years ago but only 1 lived and he's still up their now theirs only 3, I understand that they are not wild ducks but I thought that they would have just got along after fighting a little with the wild ducks? Will they ever get along with they wild ducks? It seems to be only the pekin that is going after mine the other 2 don't really care about my ducks?

The consensus is that you should not "dump" the ducks. So, the pond is on your neighbor's property and it is o.k. with them to allow your duck to go there. However, there are other ducks there that attack and fight with your ducks. Even if you are not "dumping" them you are asking if it is alright to put them in a place that obviously is a danger to them. Now you are going back to school soon. Who cares for the ducks while you are gone? Based on what you have states and replies I think the consensus will still be that you should rehome the ducks. They will be better off. You can choose to listen to us or not, that is your prerogative. But putting you ducks where they will be killed is not a good choice.

Here is a short simple answer - find the ducks a new home. You do not sound prepared to offer them the best life possible - which is what they deserve. If you release the ducks to your neighbors pond the female will survive a week, maybe two. The males will continue to fight until they are gone too. A full grown Pekin outweighs a Runner by 3x, and will almost always win a fight. Your ducks are younger, smaller, and will not win. If they do, a predator will get them. If you want the long answer, I can give that too. I have a lot of thoughts on this thread that I am not sharing :)
