Duck House Idea

So I was talking to the Ag/animal science teacher at my sons school about my ducklings and how I wanted to put them on my parents pond, but my mom wasn't sure she would be able to get down there to let them in/out every night/morning.

She told me that someone she knew had built a floating duck house that they anchored in the middle of the pond.

Does anyone have any pictures of something like this or an idea of how to construct one?

I'd seen those before, and even talked about getting together with my neighbor (who has a lovely, duck-deficient pond on his 40 acres) and building one, but what do you use for the floating platform on which the house is built?

Those are cool - it looks like the bottom one has some kind of styrofoam making it float. I wonder if PVC pipe would work also. I know at Menards you can get *things* and parts to build a floating dock - bet I could find something there.

I thought about the eggs also - might have to start using her little rowboat...

But first I have to wait and see if any of them are even girls.

you can even make your own pond with a bob cat and some sodium bentonite sand that septic companies use to seal septic tanks and wells. Can be used in a pit intead of a pond liner to prevent leakage of water out of the soil. Looks nice like a white sand beach too

I think a pallet on styrophone would be great to float it. But it doesn't really have to float. You can elevate it on deck posts like legs to meet the surface of the water.

The duck house in water would stop a lot of predators from getting to them who don't like water.

I have a problem getting my call ducks in at night. They do not have a duck house, each evening I lure them in with my chickens, geese and turkeys. It is quite a challenge, often resulting in my DH and myself chasing, capturing them, and putting them into a run. We have a predator problem. I can build a house and float it but I am afraid they my wander onto dry land and be somethings diner! Any suggestions?
