I am looking to add 2-3 ducks to my property next spring. I figured this fall/winter it would give me plenty of time to build such a duck house and a small run.
I read that it's the general recommendation 6-10 sq ft per a bird for a run and the 4ft - 6ft per a bird in the coop still applies to ducks.
* i have not decided on what breed of ducks yet. If anyone has recommendations for 1/2 acre of property, please don't hesitate to give me your 2 cents. I have kids and dogs (1/2 of the dogs are only allowed out with the birds..shes scared of the birds and i'd hate to have an accident).
i do have a flock of 12 pullets yet (who should be laying any week now..they are 24 weeks).
The ducks and chickens will NOT be sharing the same space. Only when they free range in the backyard for 50% of the day.
I do live in Florida, so the whole heat is an issue here. So, that should be a deciding factor on the actual duck house itself.
I have an "open coop" for the ladies. It's worked very well all spring and summer.
Where's a good place to find duck house plans? I haven't really found many pictures of them or plans on the internet through quick google..
