We're thinking about getting someone to make us a duck house for all of our ducks. They would be able to go in and out of it whenever they wanted, but I want something big enough for them to get in this winter if they're cold. How big should a duck house be that could house 24 ducks comfortably?

I keep thirteen smaller ducks (average about 4 pounds each) in about 100 square feet of night pen, since winters can mean we need to be cooped up quite a bit.

Right now, we have them in a 10x30 chain link dog kennel/coop. They usually sleep on the ground, but we're thinking we may need to do something different for the winter, especially with the weather predictions for this winter.

A local man builds duck houses like the one pictured below, but this one seems way too small. We would put this inside of the coop we have up right now, but it would be somewhere for them to get warm if they need to. Maybe it wouldn't need to be much bigger if we are planning on just leaving it open for them to go in and out of. What do you think?

The side and front both drop down.

while that is lovely no way could it offer enough shelter for 24 ducks. What breed?

My main flock is 3 doz ducks.... i have stalls and a main area and separate smaller coops and doghouses... what are the ratios? like is this a flock of ducks & drakes only drakes, ducks etc? Mine is a mixed flock ranging from a couple weeks to years, they are mainly large waterfowl with 2 that are considered medium.

My calls are kept/housed separate.

This picture is a smaller version. The guy can make a house that's 8ft by 4ft wide. This will also be inside a 300 sq. ft run and we have a couple of small doghouses in there as well. Our chickens have taken claim to one of them though.

We have a mixed flock (4 drakes, 12 ducks, 1 rooster and 4 hens). We just wanted to be able to accommodate a couple more in case we expand the flock in the future. We have Pekins, which are the largest breed, mallards, Khaki Campbells and runners.

For that many ducks you need to go even bigger. Think more along the lines of a min of 4 sq per bird. Right now I have 2 pekins in a 4x4 house who free range all day. I really can't imagine putting more that 1 more in there. Maybe 2 smaller ducks but that would the max and would depend on how the ducks do. We have relatively mild winters so they won't really ever need to spend all day in their either.
