I'm redoing my entire area for my poultry. Everything. I had them all in a shed that I had converted into a coop, but it's a pain to clean. I never really had to worry about the size of the house before.

Now I'm going to build a separate coop for the chickens and ducks. I have four ducks and eight chickens. They will only be in the houses at night. What would the minimum dimensions be for them?

My ducks never use their hut. It's 10x10 but they sleep next to their pond every night. I tried chasing them in a couple of times but they resisted.

Do you have Storey's guide to ducks? it has some guidelines on housing square footage. My ducks do use the barn, not only for night time protection, i lock them in but also in the horrible deep winter, i even have some who will loaf about it in during the day, they free range but have access to the barn.

I'd go for as roomy as possible, crowding is bad and honestly, expansion of the flock is always a given at least in my world lol

I haven't read that. I have them in a storage shed. It works, but i really want to have the chickens and ducks separate at night. Plus i have to move where the pen is.... And i can't move the current coop without a fork lift or taking it apart.

Chickens and ducks are complicated partners, I prefer to keep them separate as the needs vary considerably, especially mess and water consumption.

They've been doing really well together in the pen so far. I have separate areas in the pen for them, but no fence or anything to physically separate them.
