Duck hurt and leg is hanging there

Hi so one of our ducks when I went to feed them tonight was hopping on one leg I picked him up and his leg just hung there didn’t care if I moved it but didn’t like me touching where it’s hurt there are pieces of his skin that are like peeling off. It looks like he got tangled in fence and struggled before getting unstuck there’s no blood though. We plan on keeping him but is there anyway it might heal my brother has grown very fond of the ducks and my main concern is the others will pick on him if it never heals properly and he can’t use it. He seems to be getting around ok the hurt leg is just dragging on the ground but he’s figuring out how to hop around already

Hopefully it is only strained and will heal. Ducks will survive with just one useable leg, but generally the hip on the good leg eventually wears out.

If it is broken that bad where it's just draggable, there is a good chance of internal injury too and it could eventually atrophy and get gangrene. Not good.

If you end up removing it, I remember many years ago, my aunt having a one legged duck in her yard, the duck was there for several years. They CAN learn to live with one leg and do good.

The best thing is they are always close by, with one leg they LOVE swimming in circles
