Duck in park being bullied

We witnessed a poor duck being bullied. A few other ducks were jumping on it's back and biting at his neck repeatedly. It was bleeding. Does anyone know why this is happening. I can't believe this is mating because of the bleeding. Any ideas please?

It is mating,just extremely rough,unforutently this how ducks breed and it sounds like you have too many drakes.Separate the duck being overrated and down size on males and get more females.

Well unfortunately they are ducks from our park next door and ducks come and go as they please. I just felt so bad and for the time I was there I kept it separated. It actually would run to my group and hide in the middle of us which made it easy to protect but it was devastating to have to leave it there. I thought they were gonna kill it. But I'm glad it is mating I guess. The poor duck was bleeding. It was sad.

Nature is not always pretty, it can be downright vicious.
Not much you can do if ducks do not belong to you.
Maybe report to park staff, they might monitor the flocks?

Was it wild Mallards? maybe a water fowl rescue in your area might help also. Mallard drakes have been known to even drown females with gang raping so sad.
