Which makes my job harder from everything I've read.

My remaining 2 muscovies slept on the deck railing last night, leaving my 8 other ducks on the pond. We heard a commotion around midnight, (we had also hear scurrying along the deck, didn't think much of it at the time). Today one of my young drakes was missing. After searching the surrounding area I got into the rowboat to search the banks which I can't see due to weeds and brambles, etc, and found the body dragged partly onto the bank, head missing, neck eaten to the vertebrae, body still whole.

Somehow I have to get traps in the paths the mink uses, because bait has to be so fresh it's essentially live, and hope the mink steps on the trap. Their noses are great so I have to mask human scent (feel like I should be deer hunting!), and trapping it could take weeks, if I'm successful at all.

So I appeal to those of you who may have had similar situations. Any ideas?

In the meantime, I have caught 2 of my ducks and hope to catch the majority before it strikes again, and take them to my FIL's farm (if he'll agree) until I can resolve this situation.

Otherwise, I may have to give my ducks away.

No one around here seems to want ducks.
