I put my ducks away in their area last night and usually my chickens go in there during the day and lay their eggs in one of the nests. I checked the nest before I put the ducks away and took all of the chicken eggs out, except two small bad ones. Well when I went to take the ducks out this morning there was another one in there, it was decent size but not what I would expect from a duck, did one of my girls lay overnight? Do they even do that?? They are 23 week old pekins. Thanks! :) 15606849193913988572125281214300.jpg

Sounds about right. My duck eggs are smaller than I expected, which is great because they fit into the cartons I have. They are bigger than chicken eggs and have a thicker, harder shell. They also vary in size from day to day.

They vary a bit in size from hen to hen, and breed to breed. In general the larger the duck, the larger the eggs.

Also a hens first few eggs generally run small until her body gets used to laying.
