Hey all. I hope you can ease my mind a little bit. I just put my dear ducks in for the night and one of my darling Indian Runner Ducks was making a strange repeated motion with her body on and off. It almost seemed like whole body gagging/retching or a whole body hiccup. She was on her feet but perhaps less energetic/vocal than usual. I saw her drinking some water, I wonder if perhaps there was something in her throat? Does anyone have any ideas, I'm worried!

She may have eaten something that didn't get all the way down. Do they have water inside over night? she may need to drink more to help her get what ever it is down. You also might want to do a few checks to make sure she is resting along with the rest. @allgoaton

We have a security camera inside their coop (which comes in handy!) and I've been watching her. She is hanging out by their water and taking sips every once in a while. I have yet to see her sit and rest or eat at all. She is still making the gagging/jerking motion periodically, but is alert and doesn't seem lethargic or otherwise sick. I'm not sure if this is severe enough to call the vet in the morning? She's making me nervous but I'd rather not pay for the vet visit if it is something that is minor and will pass.

If she is alert and doesn't seem to be having trouble breathing or trouble swallowing, Hopefully what ever is going on will be passed by morning. Please let us know how she is in the morning.

It sounds as though she has to swallow feed or plant matter ?...Try this now or the next time it happens...Watermelon or tomatoes in water to dislodge whats caught in her throat..even rubbing the neck sometimes helps?.....The fruit works best though...:)

    Cheers!

Ran out the coop begging for treats as usual this morning, so I'm thinking she just bit off more than she could chew (this is our lovely lil runner who we have seen eating frogs, toads, mice...) of something and it took a while to get down. Still keeping an eye on her, but she is definitely no worse for wear! Snoozin the the yard the last time I checked on her.
