Duck (mallard) with bone sticking out of foot! PLEASE HELP!!!

I have a mallard with a hurt foot. Please help!! Her foot and leg are very swollen. It looks as though there is a bone sticking out of the bottom of her foot!! She is eating, drinking, and using the bathroom just fine but she does limp badly. What can I do?

We do not have vets in our area that will treat a duck. I have soaked her foot in warm water with epsom salt and cleaned it well with antibacterial soap and peroxide. I have her confined to a small cage right now. What else should I do?

WindyRiver, I am thinking an oral antibiotic for now - - - and trying to get some help from a waterfowl rehabilitator, perhaps. It's a tough one - bone sticking out - but read the quote in my "signature." Ducks have a will to live, and appreciate help.

What general area are you in? I don't want to invade your privacy, I am just trying to think if you are near anyone I know with rehab experience.

Most feed stores carry them. sure hope your duck feels better soon.
