Naming birds is so much fun!

Sometimes I change my chickens names because their personality changes, or a pullet turns out to be a secret rooster. For example, Vanda turned into Vick and Shirley into Sher Khan (Khan for short). Prince turned into Princess, but poor Flo got to keep his name, even when he turned into a rooster. LOL.

Dominator (Domni) is my barred rock rooster.

Multiple names for one of my chicks include Secret (he was an extra hatchery chick), Long-legs (he has incredible long legs), Chapman (he looks like he's wearing chaps), and Eclipse (if he is a Dark Brahma, which I can't be sure of)

Sebbie also went my Saprano (he was loud as a chick), Dottie, Mr. Dottie, and Sebright.

I have an Acorn (he had a Chipmunk pattern), Liberty, Cowgirl (she looks like she has chaps also), Sedgewick (Sedgie), Yosemite, and many others! I even had a Smaug!

Appearance, cool names, breed, behavior and personality, and whatever I am interested in at the time are what inspire my chickens names. Bubs even got her name off her breeds code (she was a straight run Buff Brahma, so her code was BUBS).

You gotta go with whatever fits their personalities, hun. Wobbles was originally named "Wobbuffet" but I took one look at him as he was sleeping on his back fresh out of the egg, and just knew he was a Wobbles. And so he was, the clumsy oaf! :p And my Bean took a while. We named her all sorts of stuff, but she was such a tiny lil' bean in our hands that the name just grew on us.

Peepers - he just peeped so much when he was little!
Ginger Snap - he is brown, and he was a bitey little duckling. He was snapping at everyone for the first few days :)
Quinn - My regal Welsh Harlequin. She is a silver Welsh, so she is so beautiful, and the name fit.
Honey - My Gold Welsh Harlequin - her feathers are honey colored, and she is so sweet, honey suits her.
Rosa - I have no idea

my daughter named her, but it suits her. She is a chocolate Runner. She is petite and timid, but an excellent forager.
Julia - My son named her after his crush at school (he is 6). We call her Julia or Jewels.

Naming ducks is so much fun! Have fun with it!

I have four Cayuga teenage hens. As ducklings they all looked exactly alike- solid black fuzzballs. As babies they were all similarly sized. As teenagers they all look exactly alike --black birds of similar size with beetle green feathers growing in and brown baby fluff growing out.

I spent a lot of time with them as babies and couldn't see any reliable differences to use ID them.

They are named

Duck
Duck
Duck
and
Duck.

I call them with "DuckDuckDuckDuck" or "Girls".

I'm hoping as they grow up I'll be able to tell them apart using size differences, or subtle differences in feathers colors, foot colors or the white feathers that they can get as they age.

I'm starting to see some personality differences in them now, though. Two like strawberries, two don't. Two will body check you like a hockey player for a tomato, two aren't as crazy about them. One loves to flirt with me. One acts like the sky is falling!! if she is the lead duck out of the sleeping quarters or swimming pool pen.

All those name are so cute!!
My blue Swedish is Molly
Black Swedish is Lucille ( Lucy most of the time)
Welsh harlequin is blue ivy ( ivy )
Khaki Campbell is Tilly
And my Rouen doesn't have a name so I just call her little smaug. Or brownie. I'm looking for some names right now!
