So this is my first time having ducks. I love them. They are so fun.

What kind of schedule do ducks lay eggs? Year around? Spring? Fall?
How old do they need to be to start laying?

I have a pair actively mating but have not seen any eggs? Does mating affect their laying?

Thank for all for any help you can provide a "duck newbie"!

It will vary depending upon their breed. Some breeds will lay year round while others are more seasonal.

They'll usually start laying around 6 months.

They'll usually start mating before the females start laying. Mating will not affect their laying.

I currently have a flock of 16 chickens and someone has offered me some ducks. (She has too many.) My chickens live in a shed and free range, unfenced, during the day. There is a pond in the nearby cow pasture, and I have a chlorinated swimming pool. What do I need to know about adding ducks to my flock?

I have 7 chickens and 4 ducks. My chickens free range all day and have access to the run and coop when they want and same as ducks. My ducks stay in the pond all day, sometimes they come in at night and I close them up and other times they stay in the pond all night. They just love it out there. I just make sure they can get to the food during the day, just in case they didn't get enough free ranging.

My khaki campbell's started laying at 22 and the other 26 wks. They were born at the same time, so they all seem to start when they want.. Mine lay all yr and I get 1 from each every single day. They are so good. Don't know much on the mating part, I have a muskovy trying to mate with 1 of my campbell's. I was told it was 2 girls when I got them, I have learned that it is a couple. lol Guess I will be learning ducklings next.
