lol well all I did was build up the dirt we dug out around the pond. They are having a hard time getting out of it though, we have had to actually remove the pekin out 3 times and she hasnt got back in after she spent the whole night in it. So were trying to figure out what to put in so they will have a step to get out. Tried wood but I'm a noob at bulding stuff, so lo and behold...it floats!

And the hardwire cloth wont hurt their little tootsies? Tried to tell my husband that we needed something on the bottom but he didn't believe me. He's the reason they got put in the kennel to die in the first place. I'm a little more protective than he is, they are my babies. There is usually more grass but it has been so dry lately! It has only rained 2 short times this summer and when you have temps between 90 and 100 every day that dries it out quick, but since they have been in there I have watered it every day to try and make it grow more for them.

I got a few bricks from my grandmother that I havent put in there yet. Would that be ok or would it hurt their feet? Ever since Luckie had her niacin defficiency and walking trouble I have been paranoid of bumblefoot.

I would cover the hardware cloth ( you can even use small field fencing, which is allot cheaper, but works all the same) with the dirt, about 1 inch or so deep.
I know the feeling, here in Colorado, it has rained maybe 2 times, but it rained all this morning, of course the one day i didn't want it to rain. XD

Not at all

just as long as it dosent have any really sharp edges ( which bricks don't), it will be a-okay .

Great! Cleaning out the pond tomorrow and in the bricks will go. Really gonna look into the hardwire cloth now. When we first built it I suggested that and putting sod on top so they would have grass...but I didnt realize how expensive grass could be...so no go on the grass squares. Probably just buy seeds and hope they don't eat them before they sprout.

I built like a raised planter, put paving stones as step stones from one end to the other, then attached poultry netting to all sides stretched across it. Under it I seeded with grass, so what grows up through the netting they can eat, leaving the roots and base to grow again. A living salad bar. here's a pic so you can see what I mean.
The planter box against the fence has Joshua grass, autumn fern, Clematis, and honey suckle(I think? or is it morning glory? I can't remember). There is netting from the endge of the planter angled up to the fence, what grows through they eat.

I'm jealous of the warm weather. We have decided summer is passing us by and spring will go right into winter. tomorrow we may possibly have our first 80 degree day. mainly it's been 60s though.

Until they figured out the getting out of the pool part I had a couple paving stones to make it easier.
The fence is buried about 6". mainly to keep the little jerks in, they are escape artists.

I would rather have your cooler weather! It's so hot here you cant go outside for 10 minutes without feeling like your gonna have a heat stroke, and when It does finally rain and cools off a little bit, its so humid you cant breathe. I can't even enjoy my ducks because of the heat. I see them hassling outside and I'll get the water hose out and make it "rain" on them.
