Most books and people familiar with ducks and geese will say it's not a good idea to use anything but a slight slope. I agree, you're taking a lot of chances doing this. Now my excuse for not listening... The ramp was originally covered with indoor/outdoor carpet so the Mallards could grip and get away from the larger pekins and geese, my little Heathens, when they were first brought out to share the house with the mallards. Then the heathens started to figure out how to do the ramp and the ones that couldn't ate the carpet in frustration until I had to remove it completely. When I go out in the mornings to let them into their pen, this platform is used as a launch site, so moving to the side of the open door quickly is a must! At night, the Mallards and now the KCs bypass the hoard going in, by flying up onto the mezzanine and I swear laughing at all of the others who can't.
