Duck Poop Piling Up?

Hi!

Wisconsin is a very good guess. It gets cold where I am. Quick search and it looks like the closest city to me had a couple days at -7°F last winter (approx. -21.67°C). It’s going to be a bit colder where I am because I’m more rural and wooded. There is also a lot of lake effect snow.

Huuuh... oh my God is it cold!

I really don't think I am the best one to advice people about keeping ducks at these temperatures...
...but honestly, I would not change a thing : I would still use (a lot of) straw to cover the ground in their runs...

You know, some ducks don't even want to go into their shelter to sleep at -15 °C (5 °F), so... yeah...!

As one can see by the picture, they are NOT thrilled with the winter here. They are bothered by the cold.

In fact, they are lying on the ground (snow) to keep their feet warm.
(Don't worry too much about it : they know what they are doing.)

Mine do the same during the colder mornings; and still, at the same time, its does not keep them from going to bath in the basins/buckets I fill with water for them!

I’m not sure how cold hardy the ducks I picked are supposed to be (I’m pretty new to ducks and I wasn’t aware until now that some breeds are apparently more cold hardy than others), but I have Rouens, Swedish, and Cayuga.

Great, because it does actually mean that your precious ducks ARE cold-hardy!!
