Duck Prn

Hello. We have 2 Cayuga ducks. We have turned a large dog kennel into a pen for them. I need help with why to put on the ground for them and any ideas for a duck house, plans would be very helpful! Any other tips would be appreciated as well as this is our first time having ducks.

Welcome to BYC! I am also using a 10x 10 dog pen as my duck house. Currently I have them in a raised brooder but my plan is to put hay down on the ground and use a 4’ trough on its side as their shelter until they are bigger. I’ll be watching to see what feedback you get from those more experienced.

Lol, I did too. Was expecting questions or comments on breeding. E is next to the R so duck pen is my new guess.

I use large flake pine shavings but my pen is inside and they free range in the day so I don't have any good suggestions for outdoors.

Welcome to BYC! I've read that sand usually works great since it is absorbent and ducks love to splash/spill their water source. They're very messy birds, lol. I would use sand if my run was smaller, but it would cost a fortune to put sand all around a run my size.
