I have 2 ducks ages 5 & 6.5 Months, who have started mating. I have read that males can get over zelous and can hurt the female if they mate too often. What I need to know is....how many times a day is viewed as to much? They mate only in the pool and, if the female is not willing, she can always jump out--he will respect this and leave her alone. I figure they are enjoying their new activity, Oh about 5 times spaced throughout the day. Any ideas on what would be inappropriate mating behavior?

Thanks

Sounds fairly normal to me. A sign of overly aggressive breeding is lots of feathers pulled out on the neck or head, if he continues once she tries to get away, gang rape by several drakes.

Thanks for the reply. Won't worry about it then, since he is very gentle with her.

I don't know that there is an inappropriate number but as stated, if the duck starts looking worse for wear it would be best to get a few more females. Excess will be missing feathers on the head/neck, bleeding in the same area etc. They may be fine as just a pair.
