Hi all,
We are thinking about getting muscovy ducks sometime. But my mom was wondering what it tastes like and if it is tough before she'll say yes or no. So if any of you eat duck could you let me know?

Thanks! (In advance

It tastes like steak. It's only tough if you cook it that way. At least when I cooked it it wasn't tough. I actually liked it better then our meat chickens

We didn't pluck, just skinned.

I've only had wild duck, which tastes exactly like liver. I'd like to raise some meat ducks, and that's what's holding me back.

One of the best meals I have ever had was Duck con Fit. LOVED IT!!! It was a fairly sweet meat.

I agree 100%, we haven't found a way to cook it yet that isn't great! It's real good in a stir fry.

Yup, steak! We actually cooked ours in the crockpot with barbeque sauce, and we had a lot of people who wouldnot be convinced it wasnt beef!

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think muscovy is a lot leaner then mallard type ducks.

Thank you all. This is just what I was looking for.

I also found another thread last night about muscovy meat - it was saying that muscovy tastes like lean beef. (In my opinion, (don't know about my mom) I think getting some muscovies would be great... we like beef, but it's pretty expensive.)

Hopefully (

I never really thought it tasted like beef....but then I am freaky sensitive to subtle taste differences. To me it doesn't taste like any other meat. Duck is probably my favorite meat. I certainly haven't noticed a liver like taste or I wouldn't like it at all. It is YUMMY!!!!!

Maybe I should get a few ducks- if I just do a couple, could I just throw them in the tractor with my Cornish X's?
