Duck run size and preferred footing?

It did, it was Duck house/run size, but I edited it to prevent confusion. My original post is the same, but guess I should have left house out of the title, b/c everyone honed in on that even though the run size and footing were my main questions. Sorry for the confusion. From now on I will just search rather than try to post and have convos on here
No worries, I thought I was senile posting again.

Oh and post away. I only posted the link because it was relatively new and I thought it was relevant to your request. Sometimes even when I do a search, the right info does not pop up. Other times, Google will find a byc post better than byc. :D

Check your local poultry and waterfowl regulations to be sure that your plans are in compliance. Our local ordinance requires two square feet per bird in the house and ten square feet per bird in the run. If our property were under 7500 square feet, we would have to have solid surface flooring in our house and run.

We have four square feet per bird in our house and sixteen square feet per bird in the run, both with a solid surface floor. I use pea gravel with sand under the pool and water buckets, and straw in the rest of the run and the house.

We have seven silver Appleyard ducks (5 ducks and 2 drakes). Their duckhouse is elevated and is roughly 8'x4'. The attached run is about 16'x8' (including the area under the house. The entire run has a roof. We use pavers for about a quarter of the run (where they eat and drink), and the rest is covered with a deep layer of straw for the winter.

The only requirement based on our sized property is that no housing or runs closer than 100ft to our property line so we are good there :) Thanks for the help!

LOVE this! 16x8 was actually exactally what I was thinking of for the run since all of our fence posts are spaced 8’ on our property. Do you prefer the raised house rather than at ground level? I like that it gives them a space to go under, but always hear ducks aren’t the greatest with ramps.

My other option is to double the run size, but then I am no sure how we could cover the whole run due to tress. HMMMM glad I have a few months to plan.
