Okay! I’m sure they will get plenty of sunlight from the sides too. On the subject of light, should I provide artificial light in the shed if they are in there for an extended period of time? If so, what’s recommended? LED, flood light, diffused, etc..

I never supplement with light of any kind... but if you do for ducks, be careful... I would use very dim or little, like a tiny string of Christmas lights... ducks DO NOT like shadows, so them moving around could possibly cause them to startle/panic and result in injuries... j/s...

Evidently not a lot because in winter from Nov till end of Feb we have about 2 hrs of sun and it's so far away they don't get to enjoy much of it. Being outside whether in sunshine or not keeps them healthy. Same as us.

I can say that mine seem to prefer staying in the shade most of the time Not just when it is hot. I think that is more because seeing shadows scares them.

That’s good to know. We would definitely turn lights out at night!! But if for the first couple of months hubby and I have to be gone at the same time during the day I would feel much more comfortable putting them in the shed; I’ll find a dim light!

I think it’s neat how instinctual being scared of shadows are! My ducks also will stand still and watch anything flying in the air, but anything bigger than a crow they run in their coop.

Mine have a panic attack over a robin.

I have 3 roosters that let everyone know when to panic. lol
