Duck severe limp help!

How old is your Pekin drake? Any duck can be a pet. Yes Pekins and even Muscovy can also be meat birds but if given right care and management can lived long healthy lives. Maybe you need to start your drake on some b complex and see if that helps. B vitamins can really benefit leg problems in Pekin and other breeds of water fowl. Even lately I have seen educators rec it for chicks and chickens. it's an inexpensive way of treating and ruling out a deficiency.

Hes under a year.. got him in mid summer, he is inna 12x12 barn with 2 other drakes and 3 females. He is inside right now because I'm in Michigan and we are having single digit and negative temps and he can not sit on or tuck his leg up to keep warm plus i wanted to limit his mobility and allow him to rest. They eat purina later pellets right now and cracked corn, cracked corn isn't give. Dail . Once in a while I chop fresh romaine lettuce in water for them as well. I do have vitamin b complex and complex and some brewers yeast as well. I've heard it has good benefits in it. He has never had any supplements before and has never limped or had an injury in the past.

Have you noticed any fighting among your drakes? having 3 drakes to 3 females can be a serious problem for the females [over mating and injuries ] and for the drakes fighting an injuries. It could be a sprain can you move his leg gently and feel any swelling or hear any popping? feel up around his hip area. If you put him in a tub of nice warm water can he move the leg at all? Start him on the B complex asap and even put brewers yeast over his food. 1ml of the b complex over some cracked corn just a bit so he get the full dose. and 1 Tab of BY over his feed 1 Tab per cup of feed.

Purina Layer pellets have too much calcium for ducks that aren't laying, and too little niacin for ducks. When ducks that aren't laying get too much calcium, they can get gout, which can cause limping.

Maybe look into an all flock Purina Flock Raiser has one that has everything ducks need and oyster shell can be put out for layers.

If a vet is an option that would be best.

If not, can you tell us what type of food you are feeding and if he's been getting a vitamin B supplement? I say this because some Pekins need food that contains a lot of niacin. Without that niacin, they can develop perosis, which could explain what you are seeing. If perosis is caught soon enough you have a better chance of treating it.

Not to be rude towards anyone here but I'm so tired of changing my food because people are telling me different thing . I'm trying to do the best I can for my ducks I love them so much..... my 3 females are laying, obv the males aren't. I'm so worried about other feeds making then gain too much weight, as for fighting and that they chase each other but I've never seen, or saw evidence of rough fights at all. No feathers or obvious signs of rough housing. I will say for day 2 he still isn't wanting to put weight on the leg.... but hes eating and drinking like normal. I haven't tried to put him in the tub or anything yet but was thinking about it for sure to see if that makes him more comfortable, once again not trying to be rude to anyone, and I do appreciate all advice.

I have Indian runners, 3 drakes and 8 ducks. I keep them all together and give them Purina flock raiser & Purina layer pellets. I mix it 50/50 then I sprinkle some tablespoons of nutritional yeast over it. If it's really cold I'll add come cracked corn in it too. I put out 2 little containers of oyster shells for the girls and they eat a lot of it.

So far it's working pretty good for me. I'm waiting for TSC to get in the 40lb bags of Purina duck pellets in so that will change once they do. I'll still do the nutritional yeast.

Good to know thank you. And tonight I filled my tun for my duck and he still stands on one leg, he moved his webbing a little like he was going to swim with the injured leg but he only stood there as the injured leg hust floated pretty much. He has stretched it out a couple times with his wing. I did get a picture of his foo . I'll submit that and of how swollen his leg was yesterday

That back toe looks pretty swollen. That large pad has some blk looking skin is it a blk scab? Do you have clear iodine? You can soak the leg in warm Epsom salt water dry and spread clear iodine over all the areas that look like cuts or infection. Not saying this is bumble it could be an injury. They take quite a while to heal. I had a Runner recently who had to stay In a dog xpen for 3 weeks during the day because she had a bad limp. Couldn’t find anything wrong but determined it had to of been a sprain. During the night she slept with the flock in the coop but I kept her in the x pen during the day so she could heal and still be with her flock. I’d give this time and support with BComplex. And if an option of course vet care. Ducks legs are not that sturdy to begin with so getting an injury can happen. Also things can happen to cause a nutrient deficiency. I have to mix layer half an half with chick starter so I am not feeding my drakes gander an roosters too much calcium. And when my flock is laying they have oyster shell to keep up with any extra calcium they may need. I wish you the best in caring for you drake. Hope you keep us up dated on how he is doing.

Are those sores new? For some reason, I thought when you posted the first post in this thread that he had no injuries to his feet.
