Duck starter

Is turkey starter appropriate for ducklings? My local feed store doesn’t have duck specific starter and I already have some turkey starter on hand.

Just regular chick starter should be fine. I believe turkey starter contains too much protein for them

I feed mine turkey starter and no need to add niacin because turkeys and ducks have similar nutritional requirements and turkey feed contains lots of niacin. Yeah, it has more protein than they need, but it should be fine.

The other end of the ducklings will just smell worse…

An All-flock/Flock Raiser or Meat bird feed with 20/22% Protein is ideal. But slightly more Protein 24/26% should be OK.
I would look for a lower Protein feed around a month of age or so.

We changed to flock raiser yesterday because they will be going to their new home next week. You can already smell the difference.

I will never forget the night after we hooked the ducklings on meal-worms. The smell was not too bad, but the burning sensation in the eyes was unbearable…
