I have a 14 month old Blue Swedish that has laid an egg faithfully since October. Now, if this is normal I have no problem with her taking a break. I'm worried because for about 4 days now she has not laid an egg. Usually it's there before 6 am. Is this a normal occurrence in Summer? Her weight seems good, she eats, drinks, excercises, etc. I'll admit out of the whole flock she handles heat the least so I make sure she has cold water and there is a pond she could use. (she never does...weird...but she'll swim in my bath tub) I did see little duck feathers in the yard so I though maybe she could even be molting. Can that happen in summer? None of my flock has molted yet so I don't really know what to expect yet.

Anyone with some duck knowledge who could help me out I would forever be grateful :) I just want to make sure my Goose is ok. (Goose is her name and her partner in crime is Maverick)

The only ducks here molting are my calls but they have ceased laying too. My bigger ducks breeds, no one really is.. and most are laying, because it's one big barn hard to know each and every one is.

How does she seem otherwise? have you checked her for any parasites? usually ducks are pretty good with that sort of stuff but it is a possibility for ceasing laying but normally there are more signs.

I admit i don't know the laying habits of B swedish, did she lay all winter? my scovies ran till about October then stopped and resumed in March... what is her food? does she have access to oyster shell.

I have a muscovy duck and she has been laying (we are in Australia so it is winter here). However she stopped laying for four days and began acting a bit strange. I have already lost one duck due to being egg bound previously so now I am always extra cautious with this duck. I monitored her behaviour over the four days and she was acting a bit unusual. Two days ago she was very quiet which is very unusual. I felt her bum area and noticed there was an egg there. She was having a hard time getting it out. I tried massaging the egg out and also used olive oil to lubricate the egg. about 3 hours after the egg came out. She was exhausted and didnt eat much that night. The next day she is fine and back to her usual self. Although she hasnt been eating much at all since the traumatic experience.
My point is make sure she isnt egg bound. You might want to try feeling her bum to see if you can feel an egg there.

She's moving around just like normal. Very active. We feed Nutrena all flock, grit, free choice oyster shell, and veggies or worms for snacks. I don't believe she's egg bound, but I suppose I'll have to check. It's going to be very interesting trying to catch her :) She's fast haha. I don't believe it's parasites. I do spray my flock and coop with permethrin (spelling) every two weeks because I'm paranoid. I haven't wormed my duck ever, but I do have a wormer so if I needed to I could. She looks good though, her weight is great, she keeps herself really clean, etc. I have lots of water stations because she doesn't like heat much, but it's actually been a pretty mild summer beside a few days here and there. Thank you for your responses.

Update. Before this morning all was normal. I have a tiny, tiny coop for my broody girl. It's one hen with her one chick. I let everybody out daily so as of 6 am it was unoccupied.

This morning my duck went in there and it looked like she was trying to make a nest. This is highly unusual. She always puts her nest in the corner of our main coop and she never ever leaves her lovers side. She didn't even come out for worms and that's even more unusual. My entire flock just about runs each other over when I bring out any morning snack, especially if it's worms. She didn't even quack at me. Now I'm going to worry all day at work and I won't be able to check on her until this afternoon.

Do ducks go "broody" once in a while like a chicken would? I didn't think she'd ever do it with how active she is.

I'd like to know this too. My duck came into point of lay in October and has laid an egg a day every since , all through winter. As of yesterday she stopped laying. She keeps making nests add though she wants to lay. And she's walking like a penguin as though she had an egg ready. But for two days now we haven't got an egg. She has been quite stressed as she had an operation on her foot to remove bumblefoot and has been back and forth from the vets since but she laid for 4 days straight after the op but had now stopped. She otherwise seems ok. So eating drinking, preening etc. She isn't off balance. I'm getting concerned as she recently had an ovarian duct infection which caused the calcium to not be absorbed into the egg and had a soft shell add though it had been sitting in water. But when that happened she showed as off balanced and vomited. She is not showing the same symptoms as before so don't think it's another infection. Just worried can she have two eggs stuck or is it normal for them to stop laying randomly. The weather is slowly starting to warm up into the low teens as in North England. Amy help or advice greatly appreciated xxx

It could be that her body is sorting itself out. My duck did not lay at all from winter through last week. Can you feel her stomach area for any swelling to see if something is stuck?
