Two days ago, we put in some straw because it was supposed to get cold through the night. In the morning, my male, Henry (3 months) wasnt quacking. He's trying to, but its like he lost his voice or has a sore throat.. We gave him warm water and watered down the feed. He's active, eats more than my female Piper (3 months) sometimes, swims, everything is normal. Except, my mom noticed Henry's eyes had yellow around them. Piper and mom and dad arent like that. Its not jaundice or liver failure… Its not his actual eye that is yellow. Its like his waterline or the "fur" around the eye... He always dunks his head into the water. Maybe his eyes got irritated from the straw? They dig around in the wood chips we lay down in the pen so maybe they dug in the straw. The bale was in the hatch of the car for a few days so it couldve got dusty. Here's a picture of Henry, its kinda blurrish, he was moving. But its in the inside corner of his eye:

The pic didn't make it.Just as I posted this the pic came up. I cannot really see his eye that well it doesn't look like it's irritated but then again it could be the pic, Straw can be dusty and can also harbor mold did it look like it had ever been wet? Is the yellow around both of his eyes? Just wondering if this is just natural to the breed, I know with my geese they have a yellow line around their eyes which is normal. Is Henry a Pekin maybe post in the Pekin thread and ask if this is normal for Pekins to have the yellow line around their eyes like eye liner. Other than that check out the straw to make sure it's not moldy and maybe change it out if you think it could be the straw. and you can add some Apple Cider Vinegar to his their water for a tonic and also to help soothe his eyes if they are inflammed.Apple Cider Vinegar is a good al round tonic. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/742668/pekin-duck-club/4200

Looking at pekin pics this one looks to have a bit of yellow around the eye or is it just me?

I just bought it a few days ago and its been in the trunk of the car. It wasnt damp at all and smelled fine. Its around both his eyes and yes he is a pekin. His sister, dad, mom, and late brother dont/didnt have it either. like you said, its like he's wearing eyeliner right on his waterline haha. We checked the straw yesterday and it was okay. Tonight we put down more wood chips. I hope its not some kind of allergy? If that even could happen, idk dogs and cats have allergies, so maybe birds do to! But in mom and dad's pen we use straw so when he goes up there, I cant have his eyes irritated and not being able to quack... :( Thanks for the apple cider vinegar idea, i'll have to keep that in mind incase i need it one day! I think that duck has what Henry has too, kinda hard not being able to see it in person. I could try tomorrow so get a better picture of him. I just snapped a quick one before I left the house today. He's getting his voice back a bit today so maybe its just irritation. Thanks

Hello
I do not see any response regarding the Peking Ducks Eyes - My one male toe toe has the same thing - is it something to worry about
