I have one duck that i have the feeling has no clue how to preen. "Pita" is such a mess when done swimming it just walks around soaked. It is 6 weeks old now. the 3 others are normal, One is almost fully feathered, one is not far behind, and lastly "Quattro" is starting to get feathers (I'm not really worried about it because he had a broken leg when really little so it is taking its time). But Pita seems to have no clue about how to clean its self or even waterproof. Everyone else is waterproof even Quattro. Any Suggestions?

Poor Pita. He hates treats, and doesn't like to clean himself.

I haven't had this problem but I am attaching some threads that might help you learn more, or at least make you feel like you are not alone.

Pita is Pita. It hates to be held. Wont even think about treats. And Has no clue how to preen correctly ( Every now and then he tries and makes himself look crazy! feathers sticking strait out in every direction.) I will try to wipe its gland with warm water, it will be difficult, I think i will take two people. I may just have him swim in hot water .... but he doesn't like to swim for more than 5 min.

Meet Bobby (named after my best friend but is a girl, which I'm sure he appreciates) She makes NO attempt to preen, does not try to fluff up after swimming while the others are getting dry. She just wanders around confused and soaked and I eventually towel dry her because I'm so worried she'll get cold. She also sinks like a rock when they go swimming. I'm thinking it's just a quirk for now? She's my little wet rat. Pita is not alone! I wonder if sometimes domesticated animals get their instincts sort of "bred" out of them? I hope Pita cheers up soon and starts enjoying the duck life.
