Hello Guys,
I’ve been having issues with my pekin duck he’s 3 turning 4 this year and at first I thought he was experiencing niacin deficiency but after supplementing it and him still struggling I believe he has arthritis. He's been having issues with walking or standing long period of time. After a swim his legs give out on him a lot, but eating, drinking and preening is normal. I seen on here that I was able to give him Metacam (Meloxicam) and it seemed to work I had it when my dog got fixed and I didn’t use any of it and it seemed to have helped a bit. Unfortunately due to living very remote in Canada I do not have any vets that can get me a prescription for him wondering if anyone can help me as I hate to see him suffering.
Thank you. 😊

Aw, I'm sorry! It's hard with pekins, and maybe it's worse with hatchery ducklings like I had. For my first ducks I had three pekins and they had so many health issues and none of them lived beyond four years, despite living like queens with everything they could possibly want provided to them, and lots of love. One of my girls stopped walking after three years and there was no visible defect. I had already spent a ton of money on her at the vet for various issues and was learning about diagnosing and treating things on my own - the avian vets where I live don't really know that much about poultry. Anyway, I carried her around and made her comfortable for a few months in hopes she would heal and walk again but she never did and I had her euthanized. It was sad, but I loved her and she lived a good life - I just hated to see her suffering and not being able to run around with her flock. Sorry about your guy!
