Sweetie, I am afraid that being messy is just a part of being a duck. It's just what they do so I think perhaps if it bothers you that much you might want to rehome her. I love ducks but have opted not to have them for the same reason. I totally understand

You got a good answer-ducks are messy.
As a rule people who have both chickens & waterfowl don't house them together for that reason.

I have a small water pan outside. And a one gallon waterer on the inside that I have learned to only fill about maybe one third of the way. I have to take water out to them 2 or 3 times a day now. But guess what? No more water all over anymore! Yay!!

Hope this helps you out. I know how you feel too, I have 4 of them buggers in the coop. I'm pretty sure the chickens didn't appreciate it any more than I did.

I'm sorry if I offended you. I did not mean to. If you are determind to keep her then perhaps someone has had better luck solving the problem than I did. I tried many different things and just never found a solution for the problem. I think ducks are beautiful and love their sweet personality and lovely large eggs but I could not find a way to solve the sloppy muddy mess all the time. I hope someone else can help you and I wish you luck.

thanks. they are all inside because they are babies still and im afraid of the 20 degree weather killing them. so its just temporary right now but i have been just giving them food and water about 5 times a day now outside the pen. it would be way easier just to keep the stuff in with them but im afraid of the wet and someone getting sick.

there all my pets lol and i guess i gotta do what i gotta do lol

I house my ducks and chickens together in a 4' x 8' coop at night, and yes, the ducks make a total mess of their water. Plus, I do have water in the pen for the ducks all night long (since I'm a lazy, late riser!). My solution has been to place the duck waterer, which is just a plastic livestock feeder pan (about 3" deep and 10 " across) inside a cat littler pan. It doesn't completely eliminate the problem of messy ducks, but it significantly cuts down on the mess.

I heard of a farmer who always said things like "you gotta work with the duckness of the duck" or the "pigness of the pig".

Hope you find a solution!
