duck with a broken leg

my peking drake got hit by a car and broke his thigh bone. we splinted it, but its not working. i checked on him today and it has started to bleeding. can't afford vet service they wanted $500 to fix him. can a duck survive with only one leg? i know that a chick can.

Can you post pics of what type of splint you have on him? Where is he bleeding? Is it from a bone sticking though or just a cut?

When you splinted him, did you put the ends of the bones back in place ?

How old is he? When was he hit?

we put the bones back together as best we could,. but the break is up high on the hip next to the socket. it is splinted on the upper thigh with 2 popcicle sticks and tape with vet wrap around that. when i checked, the bone was not sticking out, so the blood might be from a cut on the inside of the thigh. the leg dangles, but he can still flex his foot. he was hit on the 20th of october. he is under a year old. there was a little blood on the underside on the leg when i found him, but today, there was fresh blood.

That's so sad that he got hit by a car!!!!
