A couple of days ago one of my ducks started limping hard, I grabbed her and checked her leg over and found nothing. So I increased the brewers yeast in their feed, and four days later still limping, still no sores or black spots. She can run on it, she does it whenever I come to check her, but she doesn't walk on it and just tends to sit near the coop while the rest of the flock walks around. She has been penned up for the last two days in the hopes it would heal up but thought I'd ask what you kind folks think might be the issue.

Thanks in advance
Jimmy

She might have a small sliver or thistle in her foot or ankle. If you can get someone to help you, I would look over her foot and ankle with a magnifying glass. If you can get it early and throw some triple-antibiotic ointment (no pain relief) on it, you might prevent a bumble from ever forming. I am guessing her running (if it looks normal) rules out most bone/muscle/ligament problems and since you didn't mention any swelling, I am guessing there is none. She also might have just strained or bruised something but if that is the case, I would expect some improvement within 3-4 days.

There is my amateur opinion... Now let the pros answer...

I checked it over yesterday and today after soaking, there was a very small white scab that came off. Not sure if that was it or not, but I didn't see anything else. She is walking a bit better today, still hobbling a bit but doesn't seem too bothered by her foot. Maybe it just worked itself loose and is healing?
Thanks for the suggestions.

Three of my ducks went lame over the summer with no sign of sores or swelling. Then they would get better after a couple weeks, only to become lame again later. All are fine now with little intervention and I think I have it figured out. They killed all the grass in their pen this summer and were standing on hard sun baked dirt for the majority of the time. They could go inside to get off the ground if they wanted, but you know ducks, stubborn as ever. We kept the runner that was particularly bad in the indoor pen for a couple days and it seemed to help some. As soon as the weather cooled, they were fine. Not too sure what we will do next summer, since putting down straw can be sort of a problem when it blows into your cranky neighbor's lawn. We put grass clippings in from the yard but they don't last long enough. And because we live in town, they can't free range unless supervised and for short periods of time. I'll have to think of something. Anyway, I don't know if it's hot where you live right now, but it's just another reason why ducks might go lame.
