Duck with a swollen leg

Can someone tell me if this is bumble foot? It was hot to the touch.

Soak the foot in Epsom salt (don't let the duck drink the water) then put clear iodine on it wait a few days and there should be a scab with the infection and to pull it off , then soak it again with the Epsom salt and put triple antibiotic cream on it

Sounds like you have it

With the heat in the foot you probably would do well to give oral antibiotics as well, based on what I have read.

This is a thought that is worth sharing about using herbs to treat swelling, but a few more seasoned duck veterans may have something to say.

There is a horse where I ride that was having such serious problems with swelling and pain in a leg that after months of surgery, rehab, and effort thought that they were going to have to put him down. The owner gave him extra turmeric to help ease the swelling until the vet could come to euthanize him. It was heart breaking. BUT THEN A MIRACLE! The next day he was so much better, and is alive and well today, though will probably never be a riding horse again.

My point, perhaps getting some (fresh) turmeric into a duck with swelling issues can help treat the symptoms if not the overall cause.

It is worth looking into - turmeric is pretty well recognized as anti inflammatory. Oregano is used in a number of poultry operatio s also to reduce the need for antibiotics.

And there us a lot to learn. I think there is a time for antibotics especially until we are more knowledgeable about plant medicines.

So I took Dorafee the duck to the Vet today, because her foot wasn't getting better, it wasn't worse but not better. She had a bad infection and is now on antibiotics. I'm crossing my fingers that she will be on the mend soon

I hope so too. Bless your heart for taking her. Did the vet say if it was bumble foot?

@Miss Lydia, she didn't say exactly, I told her that I thought it was bumble foot & what I'd done for treatment( soaking in Epsom salt, clear iodine, wrapping) she also said a lot of things are mistaken for bumble foot but then after examining dorafee's foot said I'd done everything right, and if I'd caught it sooner it probably would've been fine. She also said that Dorafee had a temp(107 degrees) they run a bit higher than us. They gave me an antibiotic and showed me how to give it to her.

Well I am glad you took her and that she'll show improvement quick. I think I'd keep up with the soaks though. Most of the time we have no idea there is anything wrong until we see one limping. I'm glad she thought you did everything right too. Keep us posted on her.
