Duck with broken leg — update with x-ray!

Hey all. Memorial Day weekend my Swedish started limping and we suspected a broken leg due to the severity of the injury. After some progress she had difficulty walking again and we had her get an x Ray. The result is a broken femur!! Thought people here might be interested in seeing the x Ray. The break is in her femur (ouch!) and is fairly obvious.

The only thing we can do is pain meds and time. Vet said could be up to 12 weeks and may result in some permanent difficulty with the leg.

Thanks for updating surehope she heals well and can get around good being she is with you and not in the wild she should do well they are amazing. Do you have any idea how she did this?

Vet didn’t split it since it is up so high — she said that typically splinting isn’t effective with ducks and chicken.

Yeah, I haven't found a way to splint them and was just curious. So what's the plan?

Unfortunately there’s not much to do but keep doing what we are doing — keep her from over exerting, pain medication, and some light swims to exercise. She is otherwise OK — eating, drinking, happy, etc.

I missed this before -- no, we have NO IDEA what she did to it. It could have been any number of ridiculous duck antics...
