I'm new to this site and new to living on water front. We have a female mallard duck that appeared to have to wounded wings. So I penned her and taped the wings up for one week. While she was in her pen I noticed that she has mucus coming from her bill when she shakes her head. I let her ou

t this weekend and One Wing seems to be healed and the other is still hanging and she still has white mucus in her bill when she shakes her head. What can I do at home to help her heal this congestion and her other Wing. Thank you for any advice

You may have to pen her again and re tape the wing it might have been injured worse and just needs more time to heal. Does she have water in the pen deep enough to dunk her head in so she can properly wash out her nares and eyes? It's against the law to hold a wild duck captive so if you feel she is sick you can call wild life authority and maybe they can point you to a rehabber. But if you want to try and get her back to healthy duck then re tape and put some Apple Cider Vinegar into her bucket of water 1-2 tab to a gallon of water. Do this daily but if you don't see improvement in a 2-3 days then I would call Your local wild life DNR

Not at this time. Our pet budget for this year is flat. But, we may have to dig into our Christmas fund or Emergency fund, if I can convince by better half.

I did have a cat litter box with enough water to dunk her head in and she was using it. She is staying on our dock and did take a swim. The other duck chase her, but she has a couple of safe areas to get away. I will try the apple cider vinegar. I have called local wild life and didn't get a response. I'll try calling again. Thanks for the info.

Please keep us updated on how she is doing. and yes anytime one shows weakness the other are determined to run it off . It's survival of the fittest and she could draw in predators is their thinking.

:welcome

I did find a rehab and was told I could bring her in and they would most likely have to put her down. Legally I am allowed to catch her and treat but not pen her.

I'll try my best to help her and if I don't see much improvement in the next couple of weeks. I'll bring her to the rehabilitation center.
