Duck with neck problems

Our male Rouen duck was attacked by something. He cannot lift his head and you can feel small bones sticking up against the skin on one side. He is strong otherwise and will drink when I put water on the ground next to him. Is this something he can recover from or should he be put down?

Can you take him to the vet?

Vet is not really an option. He is still hanging on. He is drinking and we help by holding his head up when he does get enough strength he waves it back and forth. No idea just lots of tlc for now.

I would give him TLC, and rest, a safe clean place, good food with vitamins once or twice a week. Ducks can recover from serious injuries given proper care. I am trying to think of some way you could help support his neck without risking choking him...

Ferdanand died last night we are very sad. I guess my next question is about his mate. She has been with him since day 1 (we did not know we were getting a couple) Will she be able to survive w/out him. We have a flock of chickens and both of the ducks fit right in with them but I am a bit worried. She was insured as well but not as severely.

Ducks grieve. I would put an unbreakable mirror in with her for now and consider finding her a duck companion. Sad for your loss.
