When I offered my duckling vitamin water, she tried to drink but then it went down the wrong hole. She coughed and was fine, but then developped aspiration pneumonia. Her lungs crackle and make noises each time she breathes. I put her on Oxytetracycline, which I had at home. She began to eat and was good for a day or two then began to go downhilll fast. So I changed to SMZ/TMP. So far (it's been three days) it seems to help, but the lungs still sound like something is in there. She no longer eats on her own but is alert. I am tube-feeding her. She has been maintaining her weight at 50 grams.
I have some Tylan 200 injectable but the side effects scare me. I am giving the SMZ/TMP a chance to work first.
Has anyone had any luck with a duckling suffering from this problem? Any ideas?
