Duckling Chattering with Beak (biting for air)

Hi everyone,

We recently rescued a duckling that was left by its mom and 14 brothers and sisters. It was doing great up until the last day. It hasn’t been cheeping anymore and isn’t as energetic. It is only a week old.

The odd thing is it keeps opening and shutting its beak almost like its breathing through its mouth instead of its nostrils. It somewhat heaves its whole body and makes it almost look like it’s heart is beating hard or it has the hiccups. Has anyone ever seen this before or have any idea what it is?

Thank you for your help. The duckling is a little sweetie named Roomba - Roo for short.

I have a few questions:
What are you feeding? (vitamin deficiency?)

What is your waterer setup? (Ducks of all ages need to be able to dunk their heads for proper nose-cleaning and it helps them in swallowing.)
