duckling cut itself

Hi, my mandarin duckling got caught in some chicken wire, and I had to cut it out with wire cutters. It had a small amount of blood on the inside of its thigh and now is really struggling to put weight on that leg. It just runs/hops a bit and then sits down. Will this heal or do I need to try and catch it up (which will be pretty difficult)? Thanks

There could be infection or some nerve damage to the leg. I would try and look at it and clean the wound out with some iodine or soap and water, and then put some antibiotic ointment on it. If it is deep, an abscess could form, so look for swelling. redness, or pus formation. Nerve damage may heal over time. If the wound looks clean and is healing, then it should be alright, but nerve damage is sometimes permanent. Keeping it confined with food and water may help for a short time.

Cheers, I think it was just saw.within a couple of days it started using its leg a bit more and now I don't even know which one it was
