Duckling died in incubator

I had 6 ducklings and all hatched normally. The duckling that hatched first seemed perfectly fine but the next day I checked on them, she was dead. She was in the incubator for probably 20-24 hours after hatching at that point but I thought they should stay in incubator for 48 hours. Do you think it was too hot for her? Or something else caused it? I was devastated.

That's a little long in my opinion to keep them in there....................even though they can survive that long doesn't mean they should have to. I remove my babies almost immediately, and they are usually pretty hungry and thirsty. Plus, they pant a lot in the incubator.

There were 2 eggs that hadn’t hatched at that point so I was scared to open it.

AS long as the other eggs aren't pipped it's ok to open

Oh, ok. In that case I would have put a wet sponge into the incubator to bump the humidity back up after opening.
