We have 10 ducklings hatched 4/13 and 4/18. My daughter is desparate to take them to school to show, and her teacher even asked if it was a possibility. I am wary and wanted to ask...

-Car ride out of brooder heat lamp? Honestly, they already usually sit out from under it and it's in the 70s and 80s here.
-Nervous about trip/kids gawking?
-if I do, do I take all 10, so no one is stressed about separating?

Thanks for input!

I think it would be all right to take some to your daughter's school. You don't need the heat lamp in the car, and just make sure they have food and water. Taking only a few ducklings would be a good idea, and if you're worried about stress, add some Sav-A-Chick Electrolyte (http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/sav-a-chicktrade;-electrolyte-and-vitamin-supplement) to the water. That helps a lot. As for making the ducklings uncomfortable by other children, contact the teacher to set rules about it. Only let your daughter hold one (if she would be most comfortable with the duckling) and the others can come and pet it. Good luck!

I took all 13 of mine to a local store that sells my duck eggs. It was the day before Easter and we had dozens of people come and hold the ducklings during the two hour window. We made sure they had food and water and made sure that we rotated who was being held. Also, we had them in rubbermaid tubs so they couldn't see all the commotion when they were not being held.
I did not have any issues.

Good idea with the sav-a-chick. I think I'll just have a no touching rule. I'm sure they're hardier than I'm giving them credit for. They are just so sweet and little . Thanks !
