I will add in that just because someone works at a particular store does not mean they know a thing about the products they sell.

exactly, way too much hassle, lol.TSC sells purina duck starter pellets, maybe you could order from them. I went that route because, tbh, didnt want the hassle of adding ingredients to crumble...but im just lazy lol
In this case the employee was semi-correct. Correct that the ducklings can have medicated feed, but what they failed to mention was that the chick starter, medicated or not, does not contain enough niacin for waterfowl.I'm just going to let you know right now you probably shouldn't take your advice from either of those employees. Yeah I'm sure some of them know what they're doing but you'll read too much on this form about people who listen to someone at Tractor Supply and now they have a dead this or that.
So I read that I can give them brewers yeast? Is that just the baking yeast? And how much do I give
No it's definitely not the same. I had dr. Foster's brewer's yeast and just crushed up one tablet per cup of food
I am going to feed my ducklings Purina Flock Raiser. I don’t have them yet, but I really want to have a good run with my first flock of birds, so I must be prepared, LOL.
Purina Flock Raiser is meant for raising multiple types of birds at once, like chicks, ducklings, goslings, etc.. It has an adequate amount of niacin added to prevent leg problems in young waterfowl, which is great because I don’t have to go buy extra stuff at the medicine store to sprinkle on their feed. I know, I’m lazy.
I have always been told to NEVER give waterfowl medicated chick starter. I used believe that was true (and I still do to some degree), but after reading some of these comments (not all of them), I’m not so sure. If it isn’t true, I would still buy non-medicated chick starter and Brewer’s yeast if Purina Flock Raiser isn’t sold in your area. Better be safe than sorry, IMO.
