Duckling has externally pipped but the membrane is in open air, should I put coconut oil on it?

My duck has been sitting on eggs and is on day 27 and we have had lots of internal pips and one external pip (which is on the wrong end BTW) a little bit of the egg shell has chipped away with me handling the egg and I am worried it will dry out. Should I put coconut on it? It is my first time hatching ducklings.

No leave it be they should be internally and externally pipping right about now. A duck can take up to 48 hours after it is externally pipped to hatch. I have been hatching ducklings every year for years and the most common cause of death for ducklings I see is people panicking trying to assist too early. Externally pipped is normal on day 27.
