Hi all, I am hoping for some input or advice regarding a four week old Black Swedish duckling. I will give info to the best of my ability and try and catch a video of it later as well.
4 week old duckling - at 2 weeks this duckling began to change voice and already begin a honking like sound instead. At this time the duckling also began to make the honking sound while standing or laying, breathing heaving while honking quite a lot. It is not always but has gotten more frequent as of the past day or two. The duckling is open mouth as if panting but making rapid honking and peeping combinations. When doing so it appears to be breathing harder than the others but the behavior does not constantly last.
We have observed for any respiratory symptoms but nothing there we can see outside of the breathing appearing heavy. Healthy and eating and drinking well.
Heat wise they are indoors and supplemental heat off as they are staying adequately warm where they are. Access to water and the duckling is keeping its nose dunked every so often to clean it out.
Bedding and enclosure staying cleaned out well and frequent.
Hope this covers some background outside of the possible video and please let me know if I can provide any more info. Thanks
editing: to add that the duckling is company with other ducklings and they have been together since we first got them. No other ducklings exhibiting similar and all are healthy. Duckling in question also behaves normally outside of this and in good spirits
Just a worried duck mom and wanting to see what I can do next to determine if it is health or me overreacting to a normal behavior (hopefully). Thanks for any help
