Duckling Incubation Soon, Need Help!

Hi! So I tried incubation in late 2019. It was an epic fail, one of the eggs got infected and then the others also got infected. I was so sad that I wasn’t able to start my own little flock. But now I have 5 drakes and 5 duck hens and in March I am going to separate them. I currently have a pair that I planning on breeding. I need incubator tips ASAP I need to be ready!

When I said I found out what was wrong I meant I washed off the protective layer of the egg so they all got “sick”

Not sure what to tell you on the incubators. Those are not names I know. I use an old, styrofoam Little Giant with an egg turner. I have been pretty successful with the cheap ($60) styrofoam incubator but I purchased an external thermostat to use with it. Most incubators work on timers not thermostats. As a result, if your room changes temperature or your babies generate heat at the end incubation, the temperature in the incubator changes too much.

I would suggest getting a good hygrometer to measure humidity. Too high humidity can cause as many, if not more, problems as low. You might want to read about "dry" incubating.

For that much money you might be better with the ones which come with an automatic turner. The two names for cheap incubators which I have heard most are Little Giant and Hovabator. If you want a good, expensive incubator, Brinsea.
